Jenna: First full day of cutting = complete

Hamlin, Texas – Yesterday, (Saturday, May 29th) marked the first full day of cutting for Zeorian Harvesting. We cut about 150 acres out of our first 300-acre field, which is a pretty good day for one machine. There are patches of both fairly poor and pretty good wheat in this field, making the bushels per acre range anywhere from 10 to 70. We expect it will average about 35 bushels per acre. The weight has been about 60 and the moisture is around 10 percent.

Last night, I watched the sun set over a wheat field for the first time in nine months. It was amazing! I finally felt like I was “home” again.

Supper in the field
One of our favorite (and easiest) meals on a 95+ degree day? Taco salad.

Switching off
In order to keep the combine running, Mom and Dad often take turns eating. Last night, for example, Dad ate while Mom continued to cut – then they switched. Here, they discuss the “plan of attack” for the rest of the night before Dad hops in the combine.

Cool treat
Callie and I thought ice cream sounded good for dessert…but things got a little messy thanks to the high temperatures.

Taking a break
Glass of ice tea in hand and the best seat in the house…life is good.
