Jada: Moisture makes a difference

Hoffman Harvesting was back in the field yesterday afternoon. It was hot to the point of being miserable – 112 degrees- and humid enough to where the wheat got tough around ten. So once again, we didn’t cut a full day but we are still making some progress. We may get done harvesting today.

Test weights are 61 / 62. Moisture is still all over the board, ranging from 12% to 15% and yields are ranging from 35 -45 bu/ ac. with the exception of irrigated fields. We cut one last night and it’s amazing to see what a little moisture can do. Pratt had the making of a good harvest but just not enough rain. The irrigated field proved what the areas crop could have potentially been. It yielded somewhere around 75 – 90 bu/ ac. (not sure on the average yet).

We have GPS in our machinery and had to have John Deere Harvester Works come check out Callum’s machine. He was cutting the field zig zagged instead of in a straight line as you normally expect with GPS. They arrived a little before dusk.  We are lucky to have this
“extended support”. John Deere Harvester Works  Customer Support has their own harvest route they follow. They help local dealerships by having parts on hand that wouldn’t usually be readily available. They also help harvesters who are having trouble with equipment still on warranty. They come right to your field to help if needed. It allows us to have less of a downtime. Here are some pictures of our day.
