Taylor: Daughter No. 3

It’s the time of year when everyone is asking me what my summer plans are. Unlike the majority of my class at school who will be spending the break lifeguarding at the local pool, I’ll be heading south with my younger sister, Callie, to meet up with my parents, Jim and Tracy, on harvest.

I’m Taylor Zeorian (or, as Dad usually introduces me, “Daughter #3”) of Zeorian Harvesting. During the months of September to May, I attend a small high school in the middle of a cornfield in Nebraska, where I’ll begin my senior year this fall. During the other months, I’m on the road with our family harvesting crew.

Sure, being on the road means I miss out on summertime things at home, but I don’t get as upset about it as people might think. I have duties on harvest. Harvest is my life.

Come April, I can’t help but change all of the presets on the radio in my car to country music. There’s something about it that gets me pretty excited for summertime – and harvest. When Dad quits his winter job to start getting everything in line to head south and Mom starts packing the trailer house, I get even more excited.

On May 9th, my parents left for Burkburnett, Texas, to begin the 2012 harvest season. Even though Callie and I won’t be able to meet up with them until the end of May when school’s out, I’m glad it’s almost time to be on the road.

As you know, Jenna is passing on the blogging duties to me and Callie this year. Although I assure you it wasn’t easy for Jenna to pass her “baby” on to her little sisters, Callie and I really look forward to sharing this harvest season with people across the country. I think writing for All Aboard Wheat Harvest will be a great way to share a little bit more about us “wheaties.”

All Aboard Wheat Harvest is sponsored by High Plains Journal and Syngenta. The Zeorian Crew can be reached at zcrew@allaboardharvest.com.
