Steph: Final days in Okla.

StephNEW_thumbnailWell folks, it looks like our time in Oklahoma is coming to a close. The last couple days, we have been able to cut day in and day out and are aiming to be heading north in the next day or so. The only thing is that this area is struggle with rye in the fields. The rye straw is green compared to the wheat straw, making it harder to feed through the machine once the sun goes down. We have been able to cut till around 10pm most nights, which may sound late but it is actually very early to us. We are used to be able to cut till midnight or later! Our yields have been in the low 20s, test weights between 58 and 61 pounds, and moisture averaging at 11.

Each and every brand of combine has a service called harvest support. We have had our New Holland combines for six years now. In those years, we have become acquainted with New Holland Harvest Support. These guys follow the harvest run and will not only bring parts directly out to your field, but they will often be right there helping you fix whatever it was that needed fixing. They have always been a great help to us! We had harvest support from both New Holland and MacDon show up at our field the other morning. New Holland had to bring us a bearing and MacDon came out to check out the drum of our header. Both were quick and easy fixes and we were able to get back to work within an hour (or so, we of course had to do some socializing as well).

Brandon found this in the field while combining and removed it before it could be gobbled into the machine.

This is how we eat supper. We park equipment strategically so it blocks the wind and creates shade.
