Emma: A Visit from the President

EmmaWe had a visit from the President. It might not be the same president you are thinking of.

Kent Braathen, president of the U.S. Custom Harvesters Inc., stopped in for a visit a couple of days ago. He had just finished harvesting near Vernon, Texas. Since he was in the area, why not go see some old friends, right? We had a lovely home cooked meal (no surprise there). We had steak from one of our customers who lives in South Dakota, and homemade French fries, asparagus, fresh sliced tomatoes, homemade rolls and homemade plum jam.

Kent told us that the area he was cutting made an average of 30 to 35 bushels per acre. The irrigated wheat was expected to make near 80 bushels per acre, but the wheat definitely played a trick on everyone. Even though this is a drastic difference, 35 bushel wheat is not common in these parts. Kent also said that it was raining like crazy. Rain kept them out of the fields temporarily. No complaints from him though. We need the rain.

Kent left late that evening so they could move to their next stop on the harvest trail.

Be safe and God bless!
