Laura: Harvest has arrived!

LH Blog PhotoBurkburnett, Texas— Well, it’s official! Wheat Harvest 2015 kicked off Monday evening, outside of Burkburnett, Texas. We decided to give it a try and the monitor registered between 12ish to 14ish percent moisture (to which we were pleasantly surprised) on the first pass. We took a sample in to town and it tested at 12.6 percent moisture so the green light was instantly on! We went from expecting to leave the field early to having time to get two combines in the field and a truck load to town before the elevator staff shut down for the night. The first load went around 12.2 percent moisture with a test weight of 58 pounds. With the weather of the past month, there’s some mud holes to avoid and some of the wheat is laying down. However, we’re thankful that it continues to stand as well as it is.

It felt good to be back in the field but almost like we never left! Below are some pictures I took of our first day out!

The jury does what I like to call a quick “taste test.”  It seems dry but lets take a sample to town to be tested to be sure!
