Wheat Grower Spotlight: David Cleavinger of Wildorado, Texas

David Cleavinger and his son, Kent, farm in Wildorado, Texas, located in the Panhandle. Cleavinger’s wheat was ready to begin harvest on June 16. The dry, hot temperatures gave their wheat to mature at once.
They started with their dryland wheat, which measured a moisture content of 12.5 percent. The first load averaged 20 bushels per acre and had a test weight of 61 pounds.
The operation also consists of Cleavinger’s wife Jackie, and mother, June. They grow wheat, corn, sorghum silage and seed Milo. They farm 3,500 acres in the Wildorado, Texas, area and harvest all of their wheat.

Cleavinger is the immediate past president of the National Association of Wheat Growers, www.wheatworld.org, and is on the Board of Directors for Texas Wheat Producers Board and Association, www.texaswheat.org.
