Jenna: Like Great-Grandpa ran

Old Case combines
We ran across these old Massey Fergusons while we were in Kansas. The one in the front is the same model as the ones my great grandpa ran while he was custom harvesting in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It’s kind of fun to see these and imagine Great Grandpa out on the road with them.

I enjoy your pix too. I followed harvest to pay for college and I drove the combine model BEFORE the one you show – a Super 92 Massey. Harvest was from Vernon Center TX to Cutbank MT. Your blog brings back memories both good and bad! A great experience. Then I married the farmer’s daughter whom I had met in college and now I hire my own harvesters who just got done Monday. We had a FANTASTIC harvest after about 10 years of drought – average 58.2 bushels/acre on almost 1000 acres. Now maybe I can pay the Banker(s)!? Our trucks were also smaller hauled about 300 bushels and when we moved, we drove the combine on the truck – header and all with the truck sides boomed down on the top of the combine. Somewhere I have a picture of our six combines loaded up ready to move. We never took off the platforms. Thanx again and I enjoy your blog. Check out my daughter-in-law’s blog – ourhaxtunlife.com
