Jada: “Where the battle wasn’t fought”

Dawn

In order to be able to make our trip to S.D. in one day, we got up and left Limon, Colo.,  at sunrise. That was early for us!

When we are at a stop too long, I start to get anxious to leave. I feel that things are taking too long and it should be time to move on to the next stop. Then BAM it is time to leave. Then, I start to feel sad because I know we won’t be there again until next year. It is a vicious never ending cycle that fortunately gets overshadowed by the excitement of the next stop.

Loaded and ready
Two of our combines loaded and ready to leave Limon pulled by Robert and Mark.

We left Limon early on Aug. 3, and had a long day of traveling. This is the longest move we have, other than our trip to Texas. The desolate trip is hilly and curvy with narrow roads making the trip seem to take even longer than it really does. The heat doesn’t help the equipment in this situation and it got over 90 degrees today. Often times we have flat tires on this trip because of the heat.

Pickup and trailer
It didn’t take long for the sun to rise. Euan waits for the truckers to get ready so we can head out.

Fortunately, we did not receive any flat tires on this trip. However, we had one break down while we were in the Mission, SD area. As a truck was going up a hill, it didn’t want to shift out of 10th gear. The high gear made it impossible for the truck to get up the hill. Leon came to the rescue and was able to get the truck fixed. Unfortunately, two hours were lost making the trip even longer. Despite this, I think our trip to Gettysburg went well.

Long road ahead

The 568 mile drive was a long way to go, but we made it in one day if you can believe it!
