Winding down

Harvest has ended in the southern wheat belt, while northern regions – the Dakotas, Montana and Minnesota – are harvesting winter wheat while patiently awaiting spring wheat.

Texas – Wheat field preparation is active in some areas in the northern regions of Texas. Wheat conditions were mostly fair to good across the Lone Star State this harvest.

Oklahoma – Wheat acreage was 82-percent plowed at week’s end.

Kansas – Farmers across Kansas are fertilizing in preparation for planting the next wheat crop.

Nebraska – Wheat ripe topped 95 percent, slightly behind the average. Eighty-percent of wheat in Nebraska has been harvested.

Colorado – Winter wheat has progressed rapidly across Colorado, with 85-percent reported harvested. The crop is still slightly behind the average, but still rated mostly in good condition. Spring wheat is 54-percent turning color, and two-percent harvested.

South Dakota – Winter wheat has been rapidly harvested and is now 61-percent complete. This is significantly ahead of last year at this time, when only 35 percent was harvested. Spring wheat is reported at six-percent harvested.
