Z Crew: Rain, Rain Go Away

headshot2Manley, NE/Garden City, KS: Not a whole lot has changed since you last heard from the Z Crew . Mom and Dad moved south last week and made it to Garden City without any problems. They sat for a couple days and then were able to start cutting wheat. They got into the field and were able to cut a whole 30 acres. And then the rain showed up.

The wheat they did cut was doing surprisingly well for dryland wheat in the area. The 30 acres harvested was yielding 40 bushels per acre with a test weight of 64.7. I can’t tell you how much total rain they’ve had in the last four or five days, but I do know it’s enough to keep them out of the field for a little while!

Here at home Callie is getting ready to leave for her school trip, Jenna has returned from her first farm show, Jamie announced she’s pregnant again (yay!), and I’ve been trying to keep up with homework. Callie and I look forward to spending Independence Day here at home and then we’ll be catching up with Mom and Dad shortly after.

Z Crew: Dad loading the trailer
Dad gets ready to hit the road by packing his few necessities into the trailer house.

Z Crew: Jamie cleaning away
Jamie lends Mom a hand and vacuums the house.

Z Crew: Last load of laundry
Mom, Eli (clothes basket), and Jamie hang up the last load of laundry to dry until they return home.

Z Crew: Wedding celebrations
Above, my boyfriend Colten and I helped celebrate a couple of good friends getting hitched! Being home much longer than normal, I’ve been blessed to take part in a few experiences I would have normally missed out on. Attending College World Series baseball games and picking cherries off of our cherry tree are just a few examples of what I have been up to!

Z Crew: Ominous clouds
Down in Garden City these storm clouds have become a common site. These last few photos are being shared by my mama!

Z Crew: Driveway lake
The yard the trailer house is parked in has turned into a lake.

Z Crew: Dad on the boat
Since Mom and Dad are on a “raincation” they took the opportunity to do a little fishing.

Z Crew: Mom on the boat
I think Mom even caught something!

Z Crew: Frank tracks
The Freightliner left some pretty serious ruts in the driveway.

Z Crew: New Holland truck
After their fishing adventure, Mom and Dad drove into town and stopped to chitchat with the New Holland Harvest Support fellas.

Z Crew: Harvest Support
It’s great having Harvest Support around for both help in the field and someone new to talk with!
