Harvest gains momentum in Colorado

Texas– Winter wheat neared completion in the Northern High Plains, while in the Blacklands, wheat harvest was complete.

Oklahoma– Harvest was wrapping up. Wheat harvest was 97 percent complete by Sunday, just one point below the five-year average.

Kansas– Winter wheat mature was 99 percent, near 100 last year and the five-year average.  Harvested was 90 percent, behind 96 last year and average.

Colorado– Winter wheat was estimated at 98 percent coloring and 84 percent ripe, up from 93 percent and 61 percent last week, respectively. Conditions allowed producers to make considerable progress in the harvest of winter wheat, up 24 percentage points from the previous week, ending on 46 percent complete. Spring wheat was 94 percent headed with 17 percent turning color by week’s end.

Nebraska– Winter wheat conditions rated 6 percent very poor, 14 poor, 29 fair, 44 good, and 7 excellent. Winter wheat coloring was 97 percent, near 98 last year, and the five-year average of 99. Winter wheat mature was 65 percent, ahead of 53 last year, but near 64 average. Winter wheat harvested was 31 percent, ahead of 27 last year, but behind 40 average.

South Dakota–  Winter wheat condition rated 0 percent very poor, 4 poor, 22 fair, 65 good, and 9 excellent. Coloring was 86 percent, ahead of 74 last year but near the five-year average of 87. Winter wheat mature was 10 percent, ahead of 3 last year but well behind 36 average.

Spring wheat condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 18 fair, 66 good, and 15 excellent.  Spring wheat  headed was 88 percent, behind 95 last year and 93 average. Coloring was 19 percent, near 18 last year but behind 42 average.

North Dakota– Winter wheat headed advanced to 95 percent. Turning color was 19 percent. Condition rated 2 percent very poor, 10 poor, 33 fair, 49 good, and 6 excellent.

Spring wheat jointed was 90 percent, ahead of last year at 86, but near 93 average. Headed rated 61 percent, near last year at 58 and equal to average.  Turning color was 2 percent, equal to last year, but behind 12 average. Condition rated 2 percent very poor, 2 poor, 14 fair, 64 good, and 18 excellent.

Durum wheat jointed was 71 percent, behind 82 last year and 83 for the five-year average. Headed rated 24 percent, well behind 49 last year and 47 average. Condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 17 fair, 77 good, and 5 excellent.
