26 Jul Emma: Makin’ Plum Everything!
We knew what the day had in store for Momma and I when a good friend of the family came by and gave us a couple of boxes of area-grown plums. Canning and jelly making! They are not the typical size of plums you would see in the grocery store. These plums were about two inches in diameter, but still just as sweet.
First on the list was canning. Plums require a pressure canner for about twenty minutes. Fifteen quart jars later and the plums were plum done.
Jelly was next on the agenda. My Dad loved jelly. One time Mom made beet jelly, ( I know, sounds not so tasty) and Dad liked it. We teased him that he would eat any jelly Mom made!
Eight and a half quart jars of jelly later we were ready to be done. Not a bad day’s work!
