Goodbye Texas, Hello Kansas!

All Aboard Wheat Harvest Laura Haffner Harper, Kansas—Yesterday, the “Texas crew” officially became the “Kansas crew.” It was a little sad to leave Burkburnett. We had been there so long it had started to feel homey and the locals showed us such hospitality. From the friendly people at church and those who invited us to their delicious potluck dinner, the folks down at Hayes general store who generously loaned us a fan (long story), the librarian who did story time with us even when Little Man was the only one in attendance one week, the campground crew, the grocery store clerks and baggers (I felt I was nearly on a first-name basis with them since the store was my home away from camper), and of course our new farmers and their families. We appreciate the opportunity we had to work there this season.

Along the trail yesterday, I noticed there was still quite a bit of wheat in the fields in north central Oklahoma and even more in south central Kansas. Ryan has a meeting this morning and we hope to try it later on this afternoon. The forecast shows today is the last of the 80 degree temperatures before the 90s hit, so things should dry out in a hurry. The Oklahoma crew hopes to be back in the field today as well.

Below are some pictures of the guys enjoying a beautiful evening in camp last night. If everything goes as we hope today, that may have been the last carefree evening for quite awhile. Bring on the Kansas harvest!
