07 Jun Commence Bread Count

Hobart, Okla. – The day a harvester gets back into the field for the first time each season is basically a holiday. I haven’t figured out a clever enough name for said holiday yet but when I do, you’ll be the first to know. Today was this holiday for Osowski Ag Service. The sample at the elevator read 11 percent moisture and we left a puff of smoke in the scale house when we bolted out of there to head back to the field. Our yields have been around 20 bushels with some lower test weights on account of rain, coming in at 51/52 pounds. Farmer Mike told us the best is yet to come so these numbers will get better and better by the day. Harvest 2016 has officially begun!

I think part of the excitement of getting started is really a need for structure. Everyone knows what needs to be done and it gets done without question during harvest (especially after a month or so of constant cutting). Winter and spring give a person more time to overthink the “what ifs” or the “could happens.” During harvest, no matter what happens during the day, you know you just have to roll with it and keep the machines rolling.
