Loadin’ up and Movin’ out

Moving to Sweetwater, OK — Moving is the most stressful part of being a custom harvester. You not only have to worry about you and your crew moving down the highways, but the biggest stress is the other people on the roads. It is a known fact that people get impatient behind farm equipment. Yes, we are slow moving. Yes, we are big. Yes, it is easy to get upset because we all know you have places to go and people to see. Don’t we all! Sometimes it is easy to forget our safety. This is when accidents happen. People are not perfect but let’s all try to remember to take it easy and slow down. Take the extra five minutes and breathe. Those five minutes can save someone from getting hurt or worse, killed. Let’s be careful out there!

After loading the heads onto the double header trailer, we strap them down. This particular trip, we drove the combines to our next stop about 30 miles down the road to Sweetwater, Ok. When we move like this, we always take the 30 foot heads off of the machines for safety, and to make ease of moving.
We had our own little convoy. First it was Momma in the pickup pulling the two heads, Dan in the combine, Liz in the tractor and grain cart pulling our crew cab, and lastly me with the second combine. We made it there safe and sound, and started cutting that afternoon.

The Crowley’s were out to the field that day so they helped ready the equipment to move. (L to R) Lauren in blue hat, me, Dan, Katie, Liz, Martha in white, Leslie not paying attention, and Elizabeth in her pink sunhat!

So my sister Katie had an idea! She said, “Do you remember that picture we have of us three girls in our overalls? We were on harvest many years ago.” Well, here is picture of us ‘years ago’ (not really sure what year it was) and today. Great memories!
