25 Aug Homeward bound

Sidney, Nebraska—We have wrapped up our wheat harvest season here in Sidney. It was nice to be back in an area we haven’t been to in a couple of years. We saw good yields averaging about 45 bushels per acre and test weights averaging 60 pounds.

On some level, the harvest trail is a great escape from reality. Obviously, social media, TV and radio keep us informed to some extent, but working out “in the middle of nowhere” on a daily basis can sure offer a huge opportunity to leave the worries of the world behind. And goodness, does this world have some worries right now or what?

Heading home this season has me feeling so many things. The daunting task of sending our kids back to school is on the horizon. Yes, they are beyond ready to go … hello, longest Spring Break ever! Yes, they need to go. But one quick glance at the worlds’ events will make you question everything.

If I could wave my magic wand, we would stay on the road as long as we wanted to, or at least until everything returned to “normal.” Just for the record, I am very ready to grocery shop in whatever direction I darn well please!

But you know what? Everything is going to be OK. In this never ending fight for power, rightness (by anyone’s definition) and dominance, we know who is ultimately always in control. We will all come out of this for the better if we continue to keep our faith and focus on Him.
