Janel: Nebraska wheat

Western Nebraska — We had a fast Nebraska wheat harvest this year. The wheat was weed-free, and I didn’t see much sawfly at all. The wheat I cut yielded 35 to 70 bushels per acre, and the test weights were all more than 60 pounds per bushel.

We had really good conditions. It was dry and dusty. We had hot and sunny days and excellent weather to get the wheat harvested. I was hoping for more wheat to cut because I love cutting in western Nebraska. There’s lots of good wheat around, but now there is rain on the way for a few days.

We’ll be on the road again soon, moving north. Hopefully, we’ll have some winter wheat ready to cut when we arrive in South Dakota. I can’t wait to get back in the combine and be in the field cutting wheat!
