Janel: Goodbye, summer; hello, fall

Holdrege, Nebraska — I’ve been back in Nebraska for a few days now. The days have been hot and windy, and that helps ripen the crops along. The soybeans are getting closer to ready, and I think we’ll cut in a few days. I’m looking forward to it.

We have six combines here and three in Kansas picking corn. We have one more day of heat and wind, and then our forecast cools off with highs in the 70s and 80s. It is dry here. There are chances of rain later in the week. The corn and soybeans are turning from green to gold, and the weather is cooling down for now, so goodbye summer and hello fall! I love this time of year!

I would like to add another Class A CDL driver to my harvest crew. I wish I could drive a truck all fall, but I run a combine full time. I typically haul a load to the elevator in the morning and drive one in from the field at the end of the day. I go to work in the dark and also home in the dark. I love the big, full days of fall harvest!

Silage harvest is in full swing in this area now. I’m not usually here when silage is going on because I’m always in North Dakota cutting wheat and canola. We had great weather while we were there this year and got the crops harvested sooner than normal. Wet corn is just starting here now, too. Best of luck to those keeping the world fed!

The trucks are washed and shiny again!
There is so much tire work going on at our shop.
That’s a whole lot of tire work going on at our shop.
We put duals on and narrow tires on the back of my s780 for fall harvest!
The soybeans are ripening with the 90 degree heat and very windy days!

There are a lot of soybeans around here that are super green yet, and some pivots are still running.
