Janel: October heatwave

Holdrege, Nebraska — Harvest progress is continuing, but with an October heatwave. It’s been hot (80s and 90s) and very dry, and there’s still no rain in the forecast. However, it might finally freeze tonight, and daily temperatures are expected to be cooler, in the 50s and 60s. It is so dry and dusty here.

I’ve been harvesting soybeans and corn. The soybeans have been yielding well and cutting nicely. The corn has been high-yielding and dry. Loads have been testing at 14 to 16 percent moisture. The days have been consistently busy, and we have a full crew. We have six combines here and three in Kansas harvesting corn and milo. Best of luck to everyone working in the fields and helping to feed America!
