Kimberly: Fall harvest is moving along

We have been covering a lot of ground the past week. The weather has been in our favor this fall, and it is allowing us to get a lot of beans cut in a short amount of time.

Mychal finished corn in Turtle Lake on Friday and moved that combine to Fessenden, North Dakota, to work on beans again. I went out to help them move stuff home, so my camper is finally back in my yard after spending five months on the road.  The corn was averaging 150 bushels an acre.

Roger finished beans in Finly on Saturday and brought one machine home. Another machine went to Woolworth, North Dakota, to work on beans for about two days. Cole finished beans near Jamestown on Sunday and brought his equipment home on Monday. Logan finished beans also on Saturday and has started on the corn in Westhope.

As of now, our bean harvest will come no to an end tonight.

We plan on starting our own corn within a few days, and if this weather stays as nice as it is, our 2024 season will be coming to an end. We have not had any moisture for the past month, so we have been running hard and covering a lot of ground. Five years ago we had a major snowstorm that dumped anywhere from 18 inches to 30 inches of snow on us. I can honestly say I am so thankful that is not happening now.

We had one crew camper home and no one living in it, so Payzlee and I decided to clean it up and get it ready to be put away for the winter.  That’s one crew camper down and four more plus mine to go. It’s always nice to have my camper back because I grab as much as I can fit in my car before heading home, but I always end up forgetting something. The hard part is what to keep in and what to take out for the winter. I usually leave a lot in it, but I have to take the kids’ summer clothes out because they always outgrow them by the next summer.
