Sherry: Wrapping up Kansas harvest

Johnson, Kansas — We moved to the last three quarters of corn, all irrigated farms. We are one person short. Avery, our friend that is hauling corn, had to head back to south Texas. He is a captain of a yacht and had to sail that yacht from Rockport, Texas, to West Palm Beach, Fla. I know that must be nice, and we are all a little jealous!

We began the first quarter, and the corn was really good, averaging more than 220 bushels per acre. We definitely needed help to haul this corn to the elevator. Our hauls are short, but the corn is good! Thankfully, we had some harvesting friends in the area that were waiting on their crops to get ready, so they were able to help us haul for a couple of days with the first quarter.

The second and third quarter also averaged well over 220 bushels per acre. We had to hire another truck to assist us in hauling the corn. It took a few days to wrap up these last quarters, but the weather was perfect! Well, it was perfecting for harvesting, but I was chilly! Average highs were upper 70s to lower 80s. That is cold for this south Texas girl.

We have completed our corn harvest!

We took the next day off, then got back to the equipment to blow them all off and clean them all up. Once we got this all completed, we got our camper all tidied up to head south.

We are prepared to head south back to Texas to start our cotton picking harvest.
