08 Nov Sherry: Next stop, Texas!
We left Kansas late in the afternoon, so we only made it to Childress, Texas the first night. We stayed the night and continued our journey the next day, on to West Columbia, Texas. We had a safe and exciting trip. We drove through a few areas where the leaves are changing colors. We love the fall season!
We made it extremely late in the day to our next stop. We just set up the camper and crashed. The work began the next day.
We made it to the cotton pickers. We had to perform a full service: grease the row units, fill up with fuel, add hydraulic oil and motor oil, clean them up a little, etc. We normally get them cleaned up before we haul them, but we were running out of time because we had to head to Kansas. It’s no big deal. We are doing it now.
After we serviced them, Wailynn and Wyatt drove them to the field. We only have two cotton pickers with us for this harvest stop. They made it to the field, and it started to rain. It wasn’t too heavy, but it was rain shower after rain shower. They were not able to start picking.
The cotton in the area is pretty fair. We are looking at 1 bale to a 1 3/4 bales to the acre.
We did get rained out for the day, but, since it was Halloween, we decided to take the crew (our kids) to a haunted house. We had so much fun! I was probably the one who screamed the most.
Unfortunately, it rained enough to shut us down for a few days, but we are not complaining. We could use the break, especially since we had a wedding to attend.
We headed home to Bishop for that.
Hopefully, the rain showers will let up so we can get in the fields. We will let y’all know next week.
