26 Jun Jada: Meet James a member of the Hoffman Harvesting crew
James Hayhurst is a 22 year-old Englishman who has joined us on his first harvest and spends most of his days as the #3 combine driver. In his hometown of Lancaster, James helps on his family’s farm when he isn’t busy working at his job where does custom work such as baling, hauling hay, manure spreading- whatever he can do for area farmer. He is a hard worker and is known as Mr. Fix-it to us when he’s not in the combine.
He saw his journey to America as a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience new things and to meet new people. James enjoys working with the crew and all the little laughs they have had along the way while driving “top class” equipment. His funniest memory so far is chasing an escaped bull down the street in Kiowa, Kansas after a fun night downtown.
When asked what is most different from agriculture to here, James says the fact that one field can be up to six times the size of my own farm. What he misses most about home is his motorsport. If we went to see James in Lancaster, he would take us sightseeing. It is a very old town with lots of old stone buildings, old churches, and monuments.
After a lot of prodding from Leon, James agreed that he enjoys working for Hoffman Harvesting because Leon’s a wonderful boss and because Jada’s a good cook. Another reason why I love James! Compliments will get you far in this business! ; )
Fun Fact: James often gets told to speak American English from us because of his accent. Many words get linked together making it hard to understand him. I do think we are getting the hang of his accent now. James wants to go to a NASCAR race and to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas before leaving the States.
