Janel: Dusty soybeans

Holdrege, Nebraska — The weather we’ve been having has been nice, and it feels like summer. It’s now September 29, and we’ve had warm air and no wind day after day. The dust doesn’t move without wind. Therefore, when we unload soybeans on the cart or truck, all we can see is dust, dust and more dust. We are harvesting really dusty soybeans.

The soybean yields have been down due to hail and other weather conditions. Some corn yields in this area have been down, too. We’ve been busy cutting soybeans for more than a week now. It feels great and has been going good so far.

Our forecast remains sunny and warm with highs in the 80s. We’ve got six combines here cutting soybeans and three in Kansas picking corn. I enjoy this time of year and look forward to each day in the field. We are so blessed to have beautiful weather to get the crops harvested!
