05 Nov Janel: Happily harvesting
Nebraska — It’s now Nov. 4, and we’re still happily harvesting. Everyone keeps asking if we’re about done. It’s the same thing in the springtime with everyone asking when we’re leaving. My answer is always the same. When the time arrives, that is when!
The corn is high-yielding, and the test weights have been heavy, anywhere from 60 to 62.7 pounds per bushel. The conditions have continued to be good. We had a little rain on Sunday, but the timing was ok because the elevator was closed on Sunday anyway. The time changed, too. It was a great opportunity to catch up on some much-needed rest.
Our weather looks to be partly cloudy with slight chances of rain throughout the week and highs in the 50s. However, our crew is looking forward to finishing here and getting the equipment moved back to Holdrege. I love being in the camper, but it’s always nice to finish and get back home and in the house for the off season! I always look forward to winter. It’s my favorite time of the year!
