Christy: Saying Goodbyes

Our crew at the end of their Grand Island Case tour. They all said it was incredible to see and enjoyed visiting the facility.

Grand Island, Nebraska — Last Friday, Paul organized a tour of the Case IH facility where combines are assembled for our crew in Grand Island, Nebraska. Paul took 10 of the remaining crew down, and they said it was an awesome tour. They furthered the trip with a night in Omaha, Nebraska, checking out the sights downtown.

Inside the Case facility.

Before they went to Grand Island, all the machinery made it home to Worthington, Minnesota, and the clean up and put away process is in full swing. It will take a while to get everything ready for storage, but thankfully a good many people are still around to get everything put away.

Our last big lunch, as quite a few of the crew took off that afternoon. It’s different feeding a smaller crew now, but definitely a lot easier.
Combines lined up in the yard, waiting on their turn to get cleaned up. We finally saw a good bit of rain, and the yard has gotten a little tacky.
Gary’s shop will probably be continually full of trucks for the winter, getting worked on or polished.

Zoey and I took Anna and Katie to Sioux Falls for our last little time together before they leave for a seven-week tour of the United States. They will start out in Rapid City, seeing Mount Rushmore, and have every moment of those seven weeks packed with all the major stops, everything from Las Vegas to Walt Disney World. They will end their sightseeing journey in New York, where they will also say their respective goodbyes. Katie will head to Australia, and Anna will make her way back home to England. We will miss these two girls, especially Zoey, who really created a strong sisterly bond with both. I’m really grateful for these two women because of how strong a role model they have been to Zoey. She looks up to them so much, and hopefully we’ll be seeing them again in the future.

Katie, Anna, Zoey and me having a great meal out in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It really will be hard to say goodbye in a few days.

Steadily, we are saying our goodbyes and well wishes to our crew this year. Right now, we are down to the last seven crew, who will be packing up and heading out Wednesday. It’s hard to fathom the season has passed so quickly. Social media will keep us in touch so we can see all the neat things these kids go on to accomplish.

With everything starting to quiet down, it’s sometimes hard to find the right footing with the pace so different and schedules not so busy, but it’s good that we can have everyone home for the holidays and finally be able to relax ourselves.
