20 Nov Janel: Take the moisture and run
Holdrege, Nebraska — It’s now November 18, and the Midwest just received significant moisture. It’s been dry all fall, so we’ll take the moisture and run with it. Hopefully, it’ll do great things for the winter wheat that was planted in the dust.
We recently finished up corn harvest. The yields were average, but the test weights were heavy weighing, around 62 pounds per bushel. I love corn harvest and have to admit it makes me sad to finish harvest, especially when the weather has been so good. I always wish I had another quarter to go pick.
I’ve been busy washing equipment and trying to get organized. I’ve got a lot of work to do. We’ve still got two combines in the field harvesting around our home area. The rain today will slow it up, and the forecast is only partly sunny. With the shorter days and cooler temperatures, the grain doesn’t dry like normal. However, I’m looking forward to the holiday season and getting rested up for harvest 2025.
