Janel: Cold weather forecast

Holdrege, Nebraska — It’s been a busy week of taking care of business. I’ve been settling up with farmers on the soybeans and corn. Thank you to our loyal customers. We appreciate you more than you’ll ever know. I love fall harvest in Nebraska and look forward to it each year.

Everyone’s been asking if we traded for new combines. I wish I could say yes, but no deal has been made. Honestly, I’ve been thinking red combines would look good with our lineup of red and white trucks. Nowadays, I see so many Case machines out on wheat harvest. In my home area, there’s mostly John Deere but some Case and Claas. My family has been buying John Deere equipment for a long time, since the 1980s.

We’ve still got two combines out in the field. The rain last Monday slowed us up. Small grains don’t dry well when the heat is gone. We did pick irrigated corn today (Nov. 22), and it was a beautiful, sunny 50 degrees. It’s definitely time to get it done with the cold weather forecast showing highs in the 30s and small chances of snow. I wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving and holiday season!

I love these boots, but they are looking a little worn out. It may be time for a new pair of boots and the harvest season to be over.

Wheat harvest continues on in November. We’re just waiting on the moisture to dry down.
