Today we completed our wheat harvest run in the Colby/ Goodland area. The yields ranged anywhere from 45 to 85 bu/ ac. Test weights ranged from 59 to 62. The wheat exceeded everyone's expectations and overall we had an excellent wheat harvest here. Windy hot days brought the wheat harvest to full swing quickly here. Prior to this the wheat was wet- 20% moisture.
Tomorrow will be spent getting ready to settle up and settling up with customers as well as getting our equipment cleaned, loaded and ready for our 150 mile move to Limon, CO. We are all also hoping we'll be

One thing I really enjoy is trying new recipes. I love sharing recipes with harvest friends because they have the tastiest, easiest to make recipes that are easy to serve in the field and feed several mouths.
I share a baking addiction with my friend Ali Thurman of Thurman Harvesting who happens to have an another addiction: Pinterest. She often uses it to find new and fun recipes such as this Strawberry Upside Down Cake. Following her lead, I also found another recipe I enjoy from Pinterest and will include in this post. Doesn't summer goes hand in hand with sweets?!

Deerfield, KS – The irrigated wheat we’re up against is starting to ripen, but not quite fast enough. We’ve been busy trying to keep ourselves busy. Since we have so much time on our hands, Mom and I decided to make one of our favorite recipes we were introduced to by Mark Rathe.  I thought this would be a great opportunity to share a recipe with you! You better make a lot, because these go really fast.
Ingredients
Jalapenos, halved and gutted
Chicken breast cut into small pieces and marinated in the sauce of your choice
A pound of bacon, cut in half to

I've had a few requests for the recipe for homemade chocolate pudding and ice cream that my Mom makes. It is DELICIOUS! It might seem odd, but you really do have to eat the pudding right off the stove, and hot. It's a Misener tradition to eat hot chocolate pudding with ice cream. It is just so good.
Homemade Chocolate Pudding
6 Tablespoons cornstarch
4 Tablespoons cocoa
1/2 Cup sugar
2 eggs
6 Cups of milk
Combine cornstarch, cocoa, and sugar in a large sauce pan. Add eggs and stir, then the milk and stir, making sure there are no lumps. Bring to a full boil, stirring

Yesterday, Hoffman Harvesting packed up a portion of our crew and headed to Limon, Colorado. We didn't just say goodbye to Goodland and Kansas, we also said goodbye to four of our crew members. Roly and Andreas will continue to cut seed wheat in Goodland with our farmer; while Callum and Adam will finish up what is left to cut in Kanarado. As you can see, we are spread a little thin with our 3 way split which rarely happens. What is funny is rain stopped all four of our machines for the night. You'd think with our the more

I don't want to say rain, rain go away because it is definitely needed in Kansas; but I am going to say that the rain is getting us behind schedule. Today we played a short testing game but knew we were going to lose.
With not having much to be said about harvest, I am going to share a few recipes I enjoy making. I know being the cook can sometimes have its perks, while other times it seems more like a chore if there is no inspiration. Hopefully theses recipes inspire the chefs of harvest.
