Janel: Movin’ on up

Southwestern North Dakota—We finished up in South Dakota on Aug. 10 and hustled to get loaded and on the road to the next job. We got moved on up to North Dakota on Aug. 11. We left very early in the morning and traveled in 65 degree partly cloudy weather up here and that was nice. Now here we are again and it feels great to be back in North Dakota.
We unloaded equipment, looked at fields and started on a full section of wheat. We took a sample to town and it wasn’t quite dry enough, we waited a few hours and sampled again and it was dry. We arrived right on time and have been staying very busy cutting spring wheat. It’s yielding 50 to 70 bushels per acre. The test weights have been just under 60 pounds per bushel and the protein around 14%.
It’s now Aug. 15 and we’ve got a section and a half section of spring wheat cut so far in North Dakota. I love the north country and am glad we’re here. Our forecast is continuing to be hot and dry. We’ve got spring wheat, canola and durum to cut here. We’ll be up here awhile.

My favorite time of day is when I can see my combine shadow.

Cutting wheat next to a blooming sunflower field. So beautiful. I love the Dakotas and all the pretty scenery during wheat harvest time.

Crossing the bridge at Mobridge early in the morning.

Now this was quite the sight. The blooming sunflowers color of yellow in the early morning sunlight is stunning!
